About the 20-day breakout

Stocks closing above their trailing 20-day high. One trading month — the canonical textbook breakout window.

What the columns mean

  • Price: today’s closing price (or the latest tick during market hours).
  • Prev High: the highest price across the trailing 20-day excluding today. The level the stock just broke through.
  • Above: how far above the prior high the stock currently trades, as a percentage. Bigger = more decisive breakout.
  • Last: how many trading days ago this stock last broke out of the same window. “First” means it’s the first 20-day breakout this year.
  • Vol×: today’s volume divided by the 20-day average. Above 1.5x signals institutional participation. Above 3x is unusual.

How to act on a breakout

A breakout is a hypothesis, not a buy signal. Check the volume ratio (institutional participation matters), confirm with the broader market regime, and run the symbol through our Edge personal coach to see your historical win-rate on similar setups before you commit capital. The live scanner also gives you intraday context — squeeze status, multi-timeframe alignment, fastest movers — so you can time the entry.
